Ankle still sore

Ankle not nearly as bad today but I am going to play it safe and not run today even though I want to.

Ankle Hurts bad!

It never fails. Once I start to get in shape I get hurt/injured. Woke up to a painful ankle and could barely walk. I stayed off of it a lot today and iced it on and off. Very sore tonight.

Lets see how tomorrow goes before I head to the Doctor.

4 Miles Today

Did 4 miles on the treadmill at the gym. The last miles was a minute and a half faster than the first 3. Felt really good, although I am still very slow I am just happy to be running pain free again.
Walked for a quarter mile to cool down after the run.

Did the normal ab routine.

  • 25 side sit up on each side.
  • 25 crunches
  • 25 v-sit up crunches
  • 25 Knee up to chest
That's 14 miles for the week so far with Wednesday as my rest day. Worked this week was bad so the runs helped me a lot.

3 Miles today

Ran 3 miles today in 33:41. Figured I would do better after a rest day but not today. A run can always surprise you!


10 Miles for the week so far.


I have never regretted going on a run, but I have regretted not going on a run.


Also after the run I did the normal ab routine.

  • 25 knee ups to chest
  • 25 crunches
  • 25 side sit ups on both sides 
  • 25 V sit ups crunches

I iced my knees for 20 minutes after the run today.

Rest Day

I took a rest day today for recovery. Legs are sore so didn't want to push it. Had a couple of handyman jobs after work so will do some sit-up work before bed.

Another long run for me

Busy day! Almost talked myself out of running this morning. I said I would do it tonight but I knew my schedule would not allow a night run.


So I did 3 Miles in Kapolei from my house to the Golf Course entrance gate and back. Took 32.41 minutes. About 3 minutes faster than normal. I kept saying only 2 miles but felt ok so kept going. I think it is time for new shoes though. After the 4 miles yesterday, I didn't think I would run 3 today, but what a surprise.


Walked 18 holes of golf and the my dog on a  1 mile walk tonight as well. Needless to say but my legs are smoked!


I think golf and running has something in common. If you have a bad posture and technique in golf you hit a bad shot and unless you correct those things you will never score well. Same in running, posture and technique must be good or your times will not improve and you could get injured. My knee feels no pain so far. I corrected my running technique and am working on my posture. I am trying to keep my ankles loose on the runs and I stretch my ankles a lot before the runs.


Also after the run I did the normal ab routine.

I have not iced my knees after the last two runs. I need to do that again.

What a run!

Alright! 4 miles on the Threadmill at the Fort Shafter gym. My longest run since the knee issue. No pain during the run. 45 minutes and 10 seconds and a quarter mile walk for cool down at the end.

25 Cool down walk.

25 crunches

Got home around noon, unpacked and waited for parents to pick up the kids. Did home work with my girls and cooked dinner. Tired. Being Lazy!!

Day and night at the beach

Cassidy's birthday party at the beach today. Will have to run tomorrow when I get home. Real tight right achilles tenden. A lot of stretching today and will do the sit up routine.

Thanksgiving day run

Quick run for thanksgiving day. 2.9 miles in 32 minutes.
No knee pain, stiff calve but believe it is my new form and using muscle I didn't use in running before.

Running

My return to running from a knee injury is going good. I am doing about 12 miles a week currently with longest run being 3.5 miles. I need to start updating more often. Ran yesterday for 3.3 miles and a routine of 25 side sit up on each side, 25 v up crunches, 25 crunches and 25 leg ups. Been doing the sit up routine again like I used to. Started 3 weeks ago at 20 each and this week went up to 25. Plan to stay at 25 for about 3 to 4 weeks and then go to 30.

Hard to stay focused on the form tonight. Keep dropping my head. Not a good run but better than sitting on the couch.

Rest Day

After two days of running I decided not to push it and did a rest day. May try to go a little longer tomorrow. Sundays used to be my long run day.

No knee pain after the 3 days of running this week.

Longest run in over 2 Months

2.04 Miles tonight, 22 Minutes 8 Seconds, flat ground.

Longest run for me since my injury. Felt good, tired but good to sweat again. Hard to concentrate on everything so I tried to focus on a long neck, lean forward from the ankels and land on my midfoot with feet under hips.

We will see how sore I am in the morning and if the knee is ok.

Return to Running

I thought my running days were over! I had not run in over 2 months because of a knee problem. The Doctors said to just rest it. X-Rays said it was fine, showed no damage. Then I went to physical theraphy and they video taped me running. Bottom line it was ULGY!

I land on my heals and the impact goes straight up my leg to my knee and hips, thus the right knee pain.

They recommended to me to run barefoot and I laughed. But what the heck I might as well try it. So I did some research and found CHI Running. This technique helps to prevent heel strike. I have tried it twice, started on 2 Aug 2010 and then again on the 4th of Aug. On the 2nd I also ran bare foot for .8 of a mile. My back and legs were killing me on the third. On the 4th I ran 1.6 mile using the CHI method. So far no knee pain.
